ZIP Japanese Student Hosting Fundraiser
Patrick Gass and Zion International Programs (ZIP) has teamed up with PVHS to assist us in our fundraising activities.
Each year, ZIP offers and PV selects a group from Japan to host for a couple of weeks and the program reimburses the school which then applies those funds to individual student accounts. Generally the student can earn from $300 to $450 (or more) toward their activities.
Here is the 2018 Letter: Hello ZIP Host Families!
We are excited to welcome our summer groups this year and hope you are just as excited to host for us! Included in this email is a schedule of the groups that will be in the St. George area this summer. Please look over the schedule, and if you would like to host for any of the groups, let me know by replying to this email which group(s) you would like to host for and whether you prefer a male or female student, or if you have no preference (*dates cannot overlap if hosting more than one group). I will then put your name on the signup sheet and once we finalize everything, I will send a confirmation email with the group’s itinerary and your student profiles—usually 1-2 weeks before the group’s arrival.
Also, if you’d like to host and have not completed an application for us within the last two years, or if you have had any significant changes (e.g., additions to the family, new pets or no longer have pets, address or phone number changes, etc.), click on the following link to fill out a new host family application form and choose the group you’d like to host for from the drop down menu. If you would like to host for multiple groups, please reply to this email letting me know which groups you would like to host for: http://zip-usa.com/hostfamily/
If you have any further questions, please call, text, or email me.
Thank you and we look forward to having you host for us this summer!
*Please make a note that our TIUA and JTB2 groups are located in Hurricane.
DSU is Dixie State University; DHS is Dixie High School; PVHS/MS is Pine View High School/Middle School; SCHS/MS is Snow Canyon High School/Middle School; HHS/MS is Hurricane High School/Middle School
Requirements
1) The Japanese student must have their own bed and access to a bathroom (they can share a bedroom with kids of same gender).
2) The host family must have kids (of any ages) in the home.
Commitments
The Japanese students need to be taken to their drop off point at 9:00 in the morning (for their classes) and picked up at 4:00 in the afternoon. They spend evenings and weekends with their host families doing whatever the family does. We did this a couple of years ago and carpooled with other host families and even took our students camping with our family. There is a little bit of leeway for accommodating a day here or there that needs to be covered by someone else.
Application Form (online): http://zip-usa.com/_new/contact-us/host-families/host-form.html
I received an e-mail from a parent, "We thought we could do this but I have a work convention right in this time frame so we have to opt out for now." My reply was, "You might have your student check with some of his/her contacts (church leaders, etc.) and see if they could host and give the money to him/her AND he/she could be involved with transportation and entertainment whenever he/she IS available." I think we can be creative with making this work and have our kids be involved so that it becomes a project that benefits everyone.
It certainly is a commitment, but the cost to benefit ratio is the best you will find for fundraising.
